Film & TV Language: Cinematography analysis tasks

1-  My clip In the opening sequence of Clueless , the film establishes both setting and character through a carefully considered use of camera techniques and framing. The sequence begins with a high angle shot above the car , capturing all the main characters together as they navigate the streets of Hollywood. This choice of angle conveys the iconic, glamorous setting of Los Angeles, situating the narrative within a world of wealth and teenage privilege. The focus then shifts to a medium shot of Cher , which introduces her as the protagonist. The medium shot frames her in a way that balances her individuality with her environment, highlighting her fashion and body language key aspects of her identity. This is paired with a close up , which allows the audience to engage with her thoughts and emotions more intimately. A low angle shot of Cher and her friends follows, portraying her school life. The sequence further incorporates long shots and extreme close ups of Cher’s bed...

Flim camera practical

Image
Explanation - By using a variety of camera angles and shot types, Alezey and I constructed a visual narrative centred around the idea of me being stalked and chased through Soho which was our decided location.  The location itself played an important role in shaping the mood of the sequence, such as the busy streets allowed us to create a sense of tension and unpredictability. Enjoy:)

Conclave Flim Review

Conclave , is a political thriller set inside the Vatican. The film follows Cardinal Lawrence and other cardinals as they vote to elect a new Pope after the sudden death of the previous one. Despite its dramatic premise, the movie struggles to engage the audience due to its overly long dialogue and repetitive voting scenes. The plot centers on the election process and the secrets of various cardinals, but much of the story is bogged down by tedious discussions and slow pacing. Character development is minimal for most of the supporting cardinals, making it difficult to care about their choices or conflicts. Even the supposedly dramatic twists feel forced and fail to create real suspense. The acting is competent, but even strong performances cannot overcome the dull script and static direction. The cinematography highlights the grandeur of the Vatican, but the visual style cannot compensate for the sluggish storytelling. Overall, Conclave is a boring film for me but for a different ...

Clueless Flim Review

Clueless, a film made in 1993 is a bright, witty teen comedy that reimagines Jane Austen’s, Emma in a modern high school setting. The film follows the character Cher who is seen as a stylish, confident, and  self-absorbed teenager who believes she can “fix” everyone around her until she realises she has some growing up to do herself. The plot includes a new student, Tai who transfers to the same school as Cher. She and her best friend Dionne decide to give Tai a makeover and help her fit into their social circle. However, as Tai becomes more popular, Cher begins to question her own choices, friendships, and what really matters. This leads her to realise that she still has a lot to learn about herself. One of the movie’s strengths is its unforgettable characters such as Cher as she is iconic. The supporting cast adds to the comedic timing. If the film has a flaw, it’s that some jokes feel dated, and the world of ultra-rich Beverly Hills teens can feel exaggerated, but that’s al...

Film & TV Language: Sound video feedback and learner response

1- WWW - excellent post production , use of my own footage and found footage, good editing , good  cinematography. EBI - Too many clips from the same sequence, add different clips or in a different order which isn't seen as repeating. 2- WWW - Excellent video, Really Good, Interesting, use of editing , use of footage EBI - The Contrapuntal element was hard to notice. 3- WWW - What went well for me was the editing and filming of clips was extremely successful overall such as using shakes and other effects along with the smooth ending of my video with the car light flashing. Additionally, the idea I had flowed throughout my video creating a suspense and tensed cinematography to confused yet build fear in my audience of what is about to happen next. Moreover, the use of props , such as sunglasses, car keys and cars matched my found footage, improving on the narrative.    EBI - I could of come up with a different idea or improve on my idea to make the contrapuntal...
